According to NBA Insider Shams Charania, the New York Knicks are waiving guard Landry Shamet. The Knicks signed Shamet to an Exhibit 9 contract on Sept. 14, a non-guaranteed contract that basically serves as a training camp and preseason invitation.
This move comes after Shamet dislocated his shoulder against the Charlotte Hornets in last Tuesday's contest (Oct. 15).
Several NBA fans were surprised by the news that the Knicks cut Shamet from the roster.

"Shamet curse has ruined his career," one fan tweeted, referencing, the fact that every team Shamet started the season with over a number of years (starting in 2019) was eliminated in the conference semifinals in a Game 7.
"Cutting an elite sharpshooter is crazy," one person said.
"Nooooo……Not Sham god," another person said.
Meanwhile, other fans pointed out how well he was playing before the injury that led to him being waived.
"So unfortunate. You play well, get injured and lose your job," one fan said.
"He was solid sucks he got hurt," another tweeted.
"Damn feel bad bc he was playing solid before he got hurt," one person said.
Shamet came off the bench in the first three Knicks' preseason games before the one he was injured in.
Against the Hornets on Oct. 6, he scored 16 points. On Oct. 9 against the Washington Wizards, he tallied six points. When New York faced the Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 13, he once again provided plenty of firepower off the bench by dropping 13 points.
Shamet started the game he was injured in. After 20 minutes of action, he left the game with eight points.
What does the Knicks' wing depth look like after waiving Landry Shamet?
Landry Shamet is officially listed as a shooting guard. However, he plays more like a swingman, capable of filling either of the wing positions.
Currently, New York has several wings that can suit up as either a guard or a forward. There's Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby, who are both likely going to play heavy minutes at these two positions.
There's also Josh Hart, who at the moment, is unclear about his role. However, Hart is like a Swiss Army knife. He can suit up as the power forward when coach Tom Thibodeau wants to roll out a small ball lineup. Finally, there's Pacome Dadiet, who was taken 25th in the last draft.
New York also has some players that fill its backcourt. There's Cam Payne, who is listed as a point guard but can play as the shooting guard at times. Speedy guard Miles McBride also falls into this category. While McBride will most likely come off the bench as the primary backup for Jalen Brunson, he will occasionally see minutes as a two-guard.
Having Shamet on the Knicks lineup would have ensured that there is enough depth considering that there are several multi-role players on the team. He would have provided steady scoring off the bench had he stayed healthy and remained with them for the regular season.
