Veteran analyst Skip Bayless sharply criticized Lakers coach JJ Redick, following Hall of Famer Charles Barkley’s recent remarks targeting Redick’s stance on the NBA’s ratings decline. A month earlier, Redick had candidly attributed the league’s ratings dip to negativity in the media.
Bayless, however, strongly disagreed with Redick's assessment. He pointed to the Lakers' underwhelming performance this season, despite having two top-10 players, LeBron James and Anthony Davis, on their roster. The outspoken analyst accused Redick of deflecting responsibility for the league’s issues and went as far as to label him as “weak.”
"JJ Redick’s Lakers, with 2 Top 10 players, have underachieved at 19-14, 6th in West, 9 games back of OKC," Skip tweeted.
"YET REDICK CRITICIZED GENERAL NBA MEDIA COVERAGE AS TOO NEGATIVE??? BLAME-DEFLECTING!!! “LOOK AT THE BRIGHT SIDE.” WIN SOMETHING BEFORE YOU MOUNT YOUR SOAP BOX, JJ. WEAK."

Previously, JJ Redick took an indirect jab at analysts, former players and basketball experts for consistently speaking negatively about the NBA as a product. Redick argued that this ongoing criticism has influenced casual fans, shaping a perception over time that the quality of the league is lacking.
"I don't think we … have done a good job of storytelling, of celebrating the game," Redick said. "If I'm a casual fan and you tell me every time I turn on the television that the product sucks, well, I'm not going to watch the product.
"And that's really what has happened over the last 10 to 15 years. I don't know why. It's not funny to me. This game should be celebrated."
Charles Barkley on JJ Redick
Charles Barkley delivered a passionate critique aimed at Lakers coach JJ Redick over his comments regarding the NBA's ratings decline during TNT's coverage on Thursday. Barkley argued that the real issue plaguing the league is the growing reliance on 3-point shooting, not the opinions shared by pundits on television or podcasts.
"He said something about (how) we're the reason people aren't watching this crappy product we've got," Barkley said. "Yeah, us, like we're out there jacking up 100 3s a night."
"JJ, you come for the king, you better not miss because I can get you, brother. Remember, I've got your Lakers' games. You can't hide the flaws they've got."
Redick responded to Charles Barkley’s remarks and asserted that he "doesn't care." Redick’s Lakers are set to take the court on Friday, facing the Atlanta Hawks in the second game of a back-to-back.
