Before being traded to the Dallas Mavericks, Anthony Davis spoke with ESPN's Shams Charania about the LA Lakers' season so far. At the time, Davis told Charania that he thought LA should sign a big man for the second half of the season, saying that he plays his best basketball when he plays at the power forward spot.

Just weeks after the interview, Davis wound up getting traded, and based on the latest comments from Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, fans seem to think Anthony Davis' interview with Charania may have played a factor.

While speaking in an interview with NPR.org, Buss talked about the trade, saying that the team gave up a lot to get Luka Doncic, but based on the fact that the team is happy with the young star, and Davis now gets to play power forward in Dallas, she thinks the trade benefits both teams.

"We gave up a lot to get Luka Doncic," Buss said. "We're happy we have him. We have lost the last three years in a row to the Denver Nuggets in the playoffs, and we really didn't have anything that was going to look different going into the playoffs again."

"Anthony Davis was complaining about where he was being played, and he wasn't happy. So I think this was a positive for both teams," Buss added.

In response to the interview, NBA fans were quick to weigh in via X (formerly Twitter):

"So AD's Shams interview was the last straw. They was thinking bout trading him for Luka and as soon as that interview dropped... They were like oh yeah we DEFINITELY getting rid of this dude," one fan wrote.

"All AD wanted to do was play the 4 we should have had Hayes starting at the 5 from the beginning anyway," another fan said.
"Everything just because he asked for a center," a fan commented.

Others shared their thoughts, with some cracking jokes about the situation:

"She sounds like she was sick of AD," a fan posted.

"Ice cold response about a cutthroat business," another fan tweeted.
"Please, not hating on the Lakers, everyone knows this was a heist. That’s why they keep trying to sell it so hard," one fan wrote.

Jeanie Buss compares silent Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade to when the Lakers acquired Pau Gasol

When Shams Charania initially reported that the LA Lakers were trading Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Luka Doncic, many fans didn't believe him. The initial speculation was that Charania had been hacked.

Despite a follow-up, fans called on him to post a video discussing the trade so they knew it was really him, in complete disbelief at how the two front offices pulled off the silent trade.

In the wake of the deal, reports began to emerge that other teams weren't happy they didn't have a chance to make an offer for Doncic. While fans and front offices around the league all wondered how the two sides were able to pull off such a massive deal silently, Jeanie Buss has seen something similar before.

In her interview with NPR, Buss referenced the trade that landed Pau Gasol in LA, saying that at the time, other teams weren't happy with the silent deal either:

"You know, I learned from my dad — and I point to when the Lakers traded for Pau Gasol — people hadn't heard about it," Buss said. "Gregg Popovich in San Antonio and Mark Cuban in Dallas threw a fit that we ended up with Pau. They never got a chance to bid on him or probably talk Memphis out of trading him to us."

As she pointed out, after LA acquired Gasol, he and Kobe Bryant led the team to two championships. Only time will tell whether that will happen with the Doncic-Davis trade.
