Paolo Banchero led the Orlando Magic to a 121-113 win over the Detroit Pistons on Saturday, Jan. 25. Determined to lead the team to victory after a five-game losing streak, Banchero shot 50% from the field, finishing with 32 points.
The one-time All-Star added nine rebounds and seven assists on 30% shooting from deep. Banchero's aggressiveness was off the charts, regardless of who was guarding the rim for Detroit. At one point, he drove to the basket without hesitation, despite big man Isaiah Stewart protecting the paint.
The former Duke forward made a tough layup against Stewart, drew the foul, and completed the and-one play. After making the shot, Banchero exchanged a few words with the defensive center.
"And-one, n***a," said Banchero to Stewart twice.

Before things escalated, Jonathan Isaac stepped in between the two players and pulled Banchero away. Despite this, the Magic forward still had a few words for the Pistons player.
"Sorry a** n***a."
Banchero has played eight games since returning from a torn right oblique, which caused him to miss more than two months of action. Since his return, the big man has picked up where he left off, averaging 21.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
Overall, he's only played 13 games this season. Despite this, the 6-foot-10 forward is playing like an All-Star and has helped the team hover around the middle of the pack in the Eastern Conference standings.
Paolo Banchero didn't want his minutes limited against Detroit
Since coming back from injury, the Magic has been cautious with Paolo Banchero's minutes. In his first five games, the forward didn't crack the 30-minute mark. However, their losing streak prompted Banchero to ignore the minute restriction.
Against the Pistons, Banchero logged nearly 40 minutes of action. After the game, he revealed that he wanted to snap their losing streak and told head coach Jamahl Mosley not to worry about his minutes.
“I feel like this was a must win game. I think everybody in the locker room understood that and, I mean, I told coach [that] I was feeling good and don’t worry about the minutes restriction,” Banchero said.
Paolo Banchero, along with his star teammate, Franz Wagner, led Orlando to their 24th win. Like the 22-year-old forward, Wagner scored 32 points against Detroit. The German forward was also efficient on the floor, shooting 45%.
The Magic's next game will be against the Miami Heat on Monday at the Kaseya Center.
