Spain and Greece locked horns in an all-European clash in Tuesday's Group A matchup of the 2024 Paris Olympics Men's Basketball event.
Spain stuck with the same starting lineup as its opener on Saturday, featuring Lorenzo Brown, Xabi Lopez-Arostegui, Santi Aldama, Willy Hernangomez and Alex Abrines. Meanwhile, Greece started Thomas Walkup, Nick Calathes, Georgios Papagiannis, Kostas Papanikolau and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The teams exchanged blows early in the contest, but Greece stretched its lead as the first quarter progressed. It dominated Spain on the boards, taking a 20-12 advantage with just under three minutes left.
However, the Spaniards bounced back in the final two minutes to trim that gap to one behind Sergio Lull's small burst. The first quarter finished 22-21 in favor of Giannis and Co. The reigning EuroBasket champs continued their lethal start from 3-point range in the second quarter, snatching the lead twice in the first four minutes. They turned it into their biggest lead, ending the quarter with a 49-35 lead.

Spain relied on its clinical 3-point shooting in the first half, knocking down 11 of 17 attempts from deep. Santi Aldama (12 points) and Sergio Lull (11 points) were the best players on the floor. Giannis Antetokounmpo's nine-point half made him Greece's best.
However, Greece turned the tide around in the third quarter, winning 21-13. Spain went cold from 3, making only one of five shots from range in the quarter. Giannis returned to the contest to add eight more points to his total in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Greece was able to trim the lead to 62-56 despite trailing by 13 points with 2:30 left in the third frame.
Greece maintained the intensity in the fourth quarter, tying the game 71-71 with four minutes left. Spain went up by eight with 1:43 left but Giannis and Co. came back to give themselves a chance down the stretch. They made it a one-possession game with a minute to go, trailing 80-77.
However, Giannis Antetokounmpo missed the game-tying shot from distance with 24 seconds left. Spain restored a five-point lead after Willy Hernangomez knocked down two free throws. Alberto Diaz hit the finishing touches to give Spain an 84-77 win.
