Donovan Mitchell, known by the nickname “Spida” Mitchell, has been enjoying his free time in the offseason. After signing a new contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Mitchell was seen at a party alongside other celebrities.

At the same party, Mitchell linked up with Toby Maguire, who played Spider-Man in Marvel movies of the 2000s. In an Instagram story, Mitchell posted his encounter with the former Spider-Man as they were draped in all-white outfits.

With Mitchell’s arm wrapped around Maguire, the five-time NBA All-Star made it seem like they have been friends for a long time. Fans went delirious upon seeing the photo with some of them raving about the two 'Spider-Man' meeting for the first time.

“The most iconic meet-up ever .. no argument about it too,” said one fan.
“Spida & Spidaman😂” said another fan.
“This is history here. The photo belongs in a museum,” said another fan.

Some fans then jumped in, naming Maguire as the best Spider-Man among the actors to have played the role.

“With the 🐐 Spider-Man,” said one fan.
“Real spider man’s 🔥” said a fan.
“The goat and real spiderman,” said one fan.

Maguire starred in the Spider-Man trilogy from 2002 to 2007, before the new cast was presented. For many, however, Maguire is still the real Spider-Man.

Meanwhile, Mitchell has lived by his “Spida” nickname, which was given to him by his former college teammate’s father for his superhero-like agility on the court.

Donovan Mitchell agrees to a new contract with the Cavaliers

After a year of being in trade rumors, Donovan Mitchell secured his future with the Cleveland Cavaliers after signing a three-year, $150.3 million contract to stay with the team.

Mitchell was brought to Cleveland via trade with the Utah Jazz in 2022, which allowed the team to lure him for a long-term extension. Despite losing in the playoffs for two straight seasons, Mitchell has been vocal about how much he liked to play with the team last season.

His contract also includes a $54 million player option for the 2027-2028 season, giving the Cavaliers three years to build around Mitchell and try to compete for an NBA championship.

Mitchell will continue to fortify the Caveliers' young core bannered by his backcourt partner Darius Garland, and frontcourt duo Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. The team also signed new coach Kenny Atkinson for the next season after the firing of J.B Bickerstaff.

Donovan Mitchell was the team’s leading scorer last season, averaging 26.6 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game. However, his left knee injury caused him to miss some games in the regular season, only playing 55 games this year.
