The NBA’s 2024 Christmas Day schedule featured a heated showdown between Steph Curry’s Golden State Warriors and LeBron James’ LA Lakers. Despite the rivalry, Curry found a moment to joke with Lakers coach J.J. Redick.

During a stoppage in the first half, Curry approached the sidelines and asked the rookie coach:

"How many techs you got this year?"

Initially unable to hear the question, Redick eventually caught on and replied:

"Oh, just one."

Redick’s first technical foul as a coach came in November against the New Orleans Pelicans after he vocally disagreed with a no-call. As a player, Redick accumulated 41 technical fouls, two flagrants and three ejections.

In the NBA, technical fouls come with escalating fines: $2000 for each of the first five, $3000 for the next five, $4000 for the following five and $5000 for a 16th technical foul, which also triggers a one-game suspension.

Steph Curry talks about technical foul-prone Draymond Green

In March of the 2023-24 season, Steph Curry addressed the team’s need to limit technical fouls to avoid "self-inflicted wounds."

The remarks came after Draymond Green was ejected less than four minutes into a game for arguing with an official.

"We need him. He knows that. We all know that," Curry said of Green (per ESPN). "So whatever we need to do to keep him on the floor and be available, that's what's got to happen. Especially at this point in the year. It was a tough way to start the game."

Curry elaborated on the importance of controlling emotions:

"We don't want to give ourselves self-inflicted wounds. We all care. We all are passionate about the game and our chances to have something to play for down the stretch. You give everything you've got to this game. That's the emotion."

Draymond Green has racked up 156 technical fouls, 15 flagrants and 20 ejections in his career. In contrast, Steph Curry's disciplinary record is much lighter: 27 technicals, two ejections and zero flagrants.
