Steph Curry opens up on winning Finals MVP and shutting up his critics: "That's why I was crying on the court"

Steph Curry couldn’t hold back his emotions after the Golden State Warriors beat the Boston Celtics at TD Garden for the 2022 NBA championship. He unabashedly cried after carrying his team to their fourth title in eight years.

After the Bay Area team was dismissed as a spent force in the NBA, the two-time MVP proved the doubters wrong in a big way. Along the way, he also accomplished what was seemingly the only thing his critics could consistently throw at him.

In an interview with Warriors GM Bob Myers, “Chef Curry” had this to say about winning the championship and NBA Finals MVP:

“It felt amazing only because I knew I didn’t have to hear about it ever again. It was about us winning again, that's why I was crying on the court. … I know for the rest of my life I’ll never have to hear about it again."

He continued:

“There was not many better feelings than the stage in Boston. I’ll never have to get asked that question again.”

Heading into the championship series against the young but favored Boston Celtics, Steph Curry’s critics repeatedly doubted his past accomplishments. They insisted that he would need to win the NBA Finals MVP to cement his claim as one of the greatest players in league history.

Curry countered that his place in pro basketball was secure whether he’s officially recognized as the best player in the championship series. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and the entire organization firmly had the same belief as their franchise icon.

Still, winning the coveted prize should once and for all silence the detractors. Curry wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to do just that. He was spectacular for most of the series and carried his team when they needed him most.

With Draymond Green struggling and Klay Thompson having an up-and-down series, Steph Curry refused to let the Warriors down.

Steph Curry turned into the “Petty King” after the Golden State Warriors 2022 NBA championship

Steph Curry took note of every criticism that was thrown at the Golden State Warriors.

After winning the title on Boston’s home floor, Steph Curry showed a side of him the basketball had never seen before. He cried and trolled his detractors with the now famous “ What are they gonna say now!?” celebration.

In a post-game interview after winning the championship, he confirmed what everyone was saying about him:

“I’m the petty king. So I know all about everything and I use it as entertainment and have fun with it.”

During the parade in San Francisco to celebrate with the fans, he wouldn’t let up throwing shades at the Warriors’ doubters. Draymond Green called him and Klay Thompson the co-MVPs of the said event.

This season, the “Petty King” is still collecting receipts of what people have been saying to him and his team. The Golden State Warriors have struggled for most of this season but have slowly crawled their way back into contention.

At one point, they were 12th in the standings and looked in all sorts of trouble. They are now sixth in the Western Conference and could only get better as Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins and Andre Iguodala are back from injuries.

Regardless of where they end up in the standings, no one will be taking the Warriors lightly, not when Curry is around.
