Sonya Curry, the mother of Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry, shared a heartfelt birthday tribute for the late actor Chadwick Boseman on Saturday while promoting an episode of “Raising Fame,” a TV One series she hosts that features stories of how families raised their celebrity members.

In a post on her Instagram Stories, Sonya shared that she was lucky to have an episode featuring the late actor. She hosts the show with Lucille O’Neal, the mother of Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal.

Boseman, the acclaimed actor best known for his role as King T'Challa in Marvel's “Black Panther,” passed away on Aug. 28, 2020, at the age of 43 after a battle with colon cancer. He would have turned 48 on Saturday.

“Join us in commemorating Chadwick Boseman’s Heavenly Birthday, a celebration of his enduring legacy! He would’ve turned 48 years old on Nov. 29th,” Sonya wrote.

"Raising Fame" premiered on TV One on July 7, 2024. The series aims to provide a unique perspective on the challenges and triumphs of raising children who achieve fame in the competitive world of sports and entertainment.Steph Curry was Chadwick Boseman’s ‘Man of the Year’ in 2015

In a 2015 interview with GQ, Chadwick Boseman showered praise on Steph Curry, dubbing him the “Man of the Year” due to his unique style of play.

In the 2015-16 season, Steph Curry became the NBA’s first unanimously voted MVP after averaging 30.1 points, 6.7 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game while shooting 45.5% from beyond the arc for the Warriors.

Asked about his “Man of the Year,” Boseman said:

“Steph Curry, without a doubt. Unbelievable. That's just in sports, and I could name other guys in other categories, but he's the one.”
“You get why LeBron is a superstar or Durant, or Westbrook. But he's 6'2", 6'3". Watching Curry play takes you back in time.”

Though that season won Curry his second straight MVP and saw his Warriors set an NBA-record 73-9 regular-season record, they fell to LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers in the Finals. The Cavaliers stormed back from being down 3-1 in the series to clinch the championship in seven games.
