Wildfires raging across Los Angeles have drawn concern even within the NBA, which has two teams in the area, and Ayesha Curry, wife of Golden State star Steph Curry, is among those expressing sympathy for those affected by the disaster.

The fires have prompted mandatory evacuations for over 70,000 residents and have claimed at least five lives. Smoke and ash have enveloped the region, pushing the air quality index to hazardous levels.

On her Instagram Stories, Ayesha Curry reshared Airbnb’s post about offering free emergency housing to those impacted by the LA wildfires, adding the caption:

“Praying for everyone!”

Personnel from the LA Lakers and Clippers have also been directly affected. Lakers coach JJ Redick shared that his family had to evacuate their home in one of the impacted areas.

Kawhi Leonard of the Clippers left the team in Denver on Wednesday to join his family in Los Angeles after they were forced to evacuate their Pacific Palisades home due to the fires.

The wildfires have also disrupted other sports, with the NHL postponing a game between the Calgary Flames and the LA Kings over concerns about safety and air quality.

Steph Curry’s coaches among those affected by wildfire

Steve Kerr, coach of Steph Curry and the Warriors, revealed that his 90-year-old mother was among the many evacuated due to the wildfire in Los Angeles.

On Tuesday, Kerr said his mother, Ann, had left her Pacific Palisades home after evacuation orders were issued.

"I want to send my thoughts and condolences to everybody in Los Angeles dealing with the fires," Kerr said (per Marca). "My mom lives in Pacific Palisades. She had to evacuate."

Kerr wasn’t the only Warriors coach impacted. Player development coach Everett Dayton, who grew up in the area, shared that his family had lost their home to the wildfire.

"Everything I'm seeing and reading is just terrifying what's happening down there," Kerr said, "so just want to send thoughts to everyone who's going through the devastation of the fire. Obviously the game is secondary to that and to many things in life. Perspective is important."

Luke Loucks, an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings and a former Golden State Warriors staff member from 2016 to 2022, also announced that his brother's family home had been completely destroyed by the wildfire.
