"Steph just won a championship; KD is still hooping; Embiid is killing" - Giannis Antetokounmpo denies being "face of the league"

Oklahoma City Thunder v Milwaukee Bucks
Giannis Antetokounmpo is arguably the best player in the NBA currently

Giannis Antetokounmpo is not ready to be the face of the NBA. The six-time All-Star made the confession to teammate Serge Ibaka on the new season of the latter's YouTube show How Hungry Are You?

Responding to Ibaka's question on whether he was the face of the league, Antetokounmpo said he felt like "one of the faces of the league." However, Ibaka pressed him on whether he felt he was "the face" of the league, to which Antetokounmpo replied in the negative.

The 2021 NBA Finals MVP said:

"LeBron [James] is still playing. Steph [Curry] just won a championship. KD [Kevin Durant] is still hooping. [Joel] Embiid is killing. [Nikola] Jokic back-to-back MVP. Luka [Doncic] magic. There are a lot of people out there."

Ibaka also took the opportunity to ask Giannis Antetokounmpo about Steph Curry's remark that The Greek Freak has killer instinct.

Antetokounmpo responded:

"I just try to play as hard as I can. And I give it all. There's no off days for me. There's no... I might not play well, but the energy and effort is going to be behind me."

The Bucks superstar went on to add:

"I believe I need to reach my potential. I feel like I still have a little gap that I have to reach. So I always try to come ready, prepared. Whenever I play, I try to give everything that I have. And I feel like some people understand that I have that mentality, but some people don't."

Giannis Antetokounmpo names his starting five for international and US basketball teams

Serge Ibaka also took the opportunity to get Giannis Antetokounmpo to name his starting five for both international and American players featuring in the NBA. The two-time regular season MVP first named the non-American squad.

"Let me go [Joel] Embiid, five. [Nikola] Jokic, four. Giannis, three. Maybe Evan Fournier at the two. And Luka at one. Man, it's crazy. There's some talent there."

Giannis Antetokounmpo then went on to name his starting five for the United States.

"You gotta go Steph. Steph at one. At the two now, best shooting guard in the league – Klay Thompson. They play together – Steph and Klay Thompson. Three, LeBron. Four, KD. And who's the best American five man? [Bam] Adebayo."

Antetokounmpo also believes the international team would beat the US team because of the former's size.

"We beat them. Yes, we beat them. Who's going to guard Embiid? Adebayo. Okay, makes sense. Who's going to guard Jokic? And who's going to guard me? Man, it's close."

When Ibaka questioned who would guard KD, Antetokounmpo replied:

"Double-team. Zone defense."

The episode also saw Ibaka pose Antetokounmpo other fun and interesting questions. You can catch the full episode in the YouTube video below:
