One of LeBron James' critics, former NBA star Stephon Marbury, set the record straight on how he truly feels about King James. Before Marbury clarified the air, an ongoing narrative made it seem like the former point guard despises James. While the veteran guard's criticism of LeBron shows that he isn't a fan of his, Marbury doesn't necessarily hate him.

In a recent episode of Whistle Sports' podcast, Marbury brought up that Stephen Curry should've won the MVP award in the 2024 Olympics. This led to the host asking about his feelings toward LeBron. The former point guard said:

"Steph Curry should have got the [Olympics] MVP, period… They think I’m a LeBron James hater. I love LeBron as a basketball player. They get mad because I don’t agree that he’s better than Jordan.”

Stephon Marbury felt LeBron James didn't deserve 2024 Olympics MVP

LeBron James and Team USA proved to the world why they are deserving of the moniker world champions. The Americans beat France in their home country to win the gold medal. Prior to winning the gold, USA sprinter Noah Lyles bashed the NBA for calling themselves world champions. Given how Team USA's basketball team consisted of an All-NBA team, they've proven Lyles wrong.

In their effort to win the gold, James was named the MVP of the 2024 Olympics. He averaged 14.2 points, 8.5 assists and 6.8 rebounds per game. He nearly led every major statistical category, except for points with Steph Curry leading Team USA with 14.8 ppg.

While the numbers alone are enough to prove that LeBron was undoubtedly the best player on the team, former NBA star Stephon Marbury thought otherwise. Marbury felt that Curry was more deserving to win the MVP award in the Olympic games as Curry's 3-pointers helped Team USA beat France in the gold-medal game.

Marbury explained why James didn't deserve to win the award:

"I get LeBron is the King to many, but let me say this: when you give him what he doesn’t deserve, you basically say that because of what he’s done, he should receive such a high honor on the biggest stage. No, he didn’t earn it this time."

Stephon Marbury's statements led to a huge backlash in the basketball world, making everyone believe that the former NBA point guard truly despises LeBron James.
