LeBron James had social media buzzing early in the game between the LA Lakers and Dallas Mavericks. Following a missed 3-pointer by Rui Hachimura, Max Christie grabbed the rebound and passed the ball to the barreling James. The 40-year-old superstar attacked the rim despite Dereck Lively II standing in his path.

James went up with the ball in his right hand, switched it to his left, and slammed it over the Mavericks' 7-foot center. The Lakers bench and their fans stood up in disbelief.

Magic Johnson reacted:

“Wow! If you missed it you have to catch the highlight of LeBron’s left-handed dunk! It’s mind-blowing that a man 40 years old can still have that much hangtime!”

Johnson seemed as stunned as the Mavericks' home fans, who looked glumly at the highlight from the league’s oldest player. James has lost some pep in his step and isn’t as explosive as before, but he showed on Tuesday that he can still get up when needed.

The Lakers legend, who helped convince James to leave Cleveland for Hollywood, often reacts to the four-time MVP’s exploits.

Magic Johnson wanted the LA Lakers to trade for a consistent scorer to help LeBron James

Magic Johnson always keeps track of the LA Lakers’ season. When the trade period started, he had this to say on SiriusXM about what LeBron James and Anthony Davis needed to carry the team:

"We need one more player. If we are going to contend in the West, you gotta have at least three guys. Look at Phoenix, look at Denver, the Mavericks," he said.
"I mean all these teams, they got two or three guys that can get it done and get you 25 points a night. We don't have that. And so we need another guy that gets us 20 points on a consistent basis."

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka did not go that route with his first midseason move. Pelinka retooled LeBron James' supporting cast by trading D'Angelo Russell and second-round picks for Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton.

Finney-Smith has never averaged more than 11 points per game, but he is an excellent defender and a career 35.9% shooter from deep.

The Lakers are likely leaning on Austin Reaves, who is averaging 18.4 ppg, to become the third consistent scorer Magic Johnson wanted them to acquire.
