Stunned Steve Kerr launches brutal attack at officials after "billion-dollar industry" sees outcome-altering decision

Steve Kerr didn't hold back on the officials after a controversial call saw the Golden State Warriors lose 91-90 to the Houston Rockets. The narrow defeat also saw the side crash out of the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup. The head coach later expressed his displeasure with the referees in the post-game presser.

Calling the decision unlike anything he had ever seen before, Kerr had enough to say. Per The Athletic's Anthony Slater:

"Steve Kerr called the loose ball foul that decided the game with 3.5 seconds left an “unconscionable” whistle and something an “elementary school” official wouldn’t have called."

Steve Kerr's unit led the Rockets 90-89 with less than ten seconds remaining when a loose ball sparked controversy. It went to Gary Payton II on the floor when Rockets PG Fred VanVleet jumped on his back to contest the decision. The ball then went into the hands of Jalen Green while Jonathan Kuminga pulled a move similar to VanVleet by jumping for the ball.

The officiating came under intense scrutiny when the foul call was called on Kuming, but not on VanVleet. The call ended with Green getting to the charity stripe and knocking down two free throws to hand Houston the win and punch a ticket to Vegas.
