ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith urged Canadian hip-hop artist Drake to answer Kendrick Lamar directly in their beef instead of making it a legal battle. He made his thoughts known just as he defended himself on hearing that Drake was upset over his coverage of the issue.

Speaking on "The Stephen A. Smith Show" on Wednesday, the host said Drake should do a better job handling his issue with Lamar, and not turning against others like him who are just telling things as they see them. He also took a dig at Drizzy's decision to take his quarrel with Lamar to the courts.

Stephen A. Smith said:

"I understand that Drake's a bit sensitive in these times. He's in his feelings. And, don't ask me how but I know he's seen this show. And I know that he has seen some of the things I have said about him on the show. To Drake, the artist extraordinaire, I did not say or echo a single negative thing about you... What I said was fact. 'Not Like Us' got you."

He added:

"What I'm saying is you don't [take the] lawyer route in hip-hop over something like this. You take it to the studio. You take it to the streets. That's all I said. I didn't say you can't answer Kendrick Lamar. I said you better figure out a way to do so. Meaning you have the capability to pull it off. That's all..."

Check out what he had to say below:

Lamar fanned his long-standing beef with Drake by releasing a diss track about the latter called "Not Like Us."

The issue between the two took another form when lawyers for Drake recently made a series of court filings claiming that Univeral Music Group manipulated up the listenership for "Not Like Us."

Stephen A. Smith admits beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has gone too personal

While Stephen A. Smith has urged Drake and Kendrick Lamar to take their dispute directly between themselves, he admits the beef is something he has not seen before and has become way too personal.

He shared this in one of the episodes of ESPN's "First Take "earlier this year, highlighting how incendiary the words being put out in each other's diss records.

Stephen A. Smith said (via Vibe):

"I'm not gonna repeat a single lyric either of them has said. What I'm gonna tell you is that pedophilia has been mentioned talking about who's screwing who and all of this other stuff, talking about people's family members, people's family structure and all ... come on, y'all."

He added:

"We've seen all this stuff, but not like this. Not like this."

Smith was criticized by Drake recently for what the rapper believes to be the host's unfair coverage of his beef with Lamar.
