Germany Pushes Wembanyama-less France to the Limit in Olympic Preparation Game

Wembanyama delivered for Les Bleus' (The France National Team) in the first 2 summer preps, scoring 49 points while playing only for 39 minutes. But he was rested for the second match against Germany on July 8, presenting a chance to assess how France would perform without him.

At the same time, Franz and Moritz Wagner represented the FIBA 2023 World Champions for the first time this summer. The Germans benefited from the offensive skill of the Wagner brothers, although they took advantage of another game with no Daniel Theis nor Johannes Thiemann.

Having trailed by 11 points in the first half, the German side won this game 70-65.

Even without Wemby, the French defense did a solid job. Mathias Lessort was a beast in the paint as he hammered home an alley-oop finish, one of his eight first half points that pushed the hosts' lead out to 13 with just under six minutes left.

It came down to the wire and nerves were felt by the French national team. After two subsequent misses from the line by Lessort, Dennis Schroder iced a pair to preserve his side's perfect record.
