Carmelo Anthony and La La Anthony have been divorced but aren't letting their past come in between their chance to co-parent their son, Kiyan Anthony. Melo and La La have closely watched Kiyan's basketball journey. He primarily lives with his mother but often links up with his dad as they all live in New York.
The trio were together when Kiyan made his decision to join Syracuse known to his fans on Carmelo Anthony's podcast. "7 PM in Brooklyn." La La Anthony also made her debut on the show.
The couple were on the same page about Kiyan's decision to join Syracuse. Carmelo clarified he didn't influence his son's choice to join his alma mater.
"It’s a tough decision. And like, for me to have to like, be quiet, like knowing what is cooking over here, it’s tough,” Melo said. "I know what’s happening in Syracuse. I’m a part of that … I can’t even tell him that. Because then that way, that’s like… Swaying. That’s swaying him a little bit."
La La Anthony doubled down on Carmelo Anthony's clarification, saying he had nothing to do with Kiyan Anthony's ultimate pick. The top recruit from New York had USC and Auburn as his other two options.
