One of the league's newest superstars, Anthony Edwards, is proving his mental fortitude. The Minnesota Timberwolves guard's exciting season came to a screeching halt in the Western Conference Finals last year, but he's adopted good spirits after the loss.

He spoke about his positive mentality on Monday. During Team USA's minicamp in Las Vegas ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Edwards reflected on last year's loss.

"That sh*t gone," Edwards said in an exclusive interview with Yahoo Sports. "I can't do nothin' about it, I can't go back and replay it. It's over. We lost."

Rather than mull over the details of the series against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, Edward is focusing on moving forward:

"All im thinkin about now is, if we get back there, what we’re going to do."

Anthony Edwards says they weren't as dialed in as the Mavericks

He gave the Mavericks their credit for being locked in during the series while also summing up the loss, saying:

"They was just clicking at the right time, so, that's just what happened."

The Mavericks took care of Minnesota without too much of a fight, nearly sweeping them before a 29-point performance by Edwards in Game 4. The Mavericks were indeed clicking, shooting 50 percent from the field in the series.

They were able to exploit Minnesota's twin-tower lineup of Rudy Gobert and Karl Anthony-Towns, forcing Gobert into uncomfortable pick-and-rolls while the energetic rookie center Derrick Lively found holes in the paint.

On the defensive end, they were able to hide their weaker defenders, Doncic and Kyrie Irving, on the less-threatening Timberwolves offensive players. They lacked the firepower to attack the Mavericks like the eventual champions Boston Celtics did in the NBA Finals.

They may have ultimately been outcoached with Mavericks coach Jason Kidd always finding the right offensive rotations around an often sluggish Minnesota defense.

The Timberwolves were poorly prepared on the step-back buzzer-beater game-winning three by Doncic in Game 2, which he nailed over Gobert following a switch on defense in a play where Gobert probably should have stayed on the bench.

However, Edwards' numbers did slip in the series. He averaged over 27 per game in the prior series against the defending champion Denver Nuggets but shrunk to under 25 in the series vs. Dallas while opposing star Luka Doncic put up 32 against a stronger Timberwolves defense.

He said he's doing a good job tapping into the motivation.

"When you lose, you motivated. If you lose, and you not motivated, it's a problem."

In the long run, it's okay for such a young star to be imperfect in his first deep playoff run as it will serve as a learning curve for Edwards.
