Dallas Mavericks superstar guard Luka Doncic returned on Wednesday (Mar. 22) night against the Golden State Warriors following a five-game absence due to a thigh injury. However, his return was spoiled, as the shorthanded Mavs, who were playing without star point guard Kyrie Irving (foot), fell 127-125 to the Warriors.
That came after a no-call on Doncic’s layup attempt with the Mavs trailing by three with 3.2 seconds remaining sealed the win for Golden State. Doncic was visibly frustrated with the no-call and motioned the money symbol towards a referee following the play, insinuating that the refs were paid off.
It led fans on Twitter to mock the star guard for complaining, despite being the beneficiary of many other calls throughout the game. That came as the Mavs shot 28 free throws compared to the Warriors’ 18. Doncic himself also attempted ten free throws, more than any Warriors player.

Updated Western Conference standings following Warriors’ win over Mavericks
Wednesday night’s matchup marked a pivotal game for both Dallas and Golden State. That came as both teams are battling to secure playoff/play-in spots in the crowded Western Conference.
Despite the loss, Luka Doncic led the Mavs with a game-high 30 points, seven rebounds, 17 assists and one steal on 40.7% shooting. The game marked his 41st 30-point game of the season, passing Mark Aguirre for the most 30-point games in a season in Mavs' history.
Meanwhile, the Warriors were led by second-year forward Jonathan Kuminga, who finished with 22 points, three rebounds, one assists and two steals on 81.8% shooting.
Following the win, Golden State (38-36) remains sixth in the West. However, the Warriors are just one game ahead of the seventh-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves (37-37). So Golden State is still in danger of falling into the play-in with eight games remaining.
Meanwhile, Dallas (36-37, ninth in the West) has dropped below .500 and is barely clinging to a play-in spot with nine games remaining. The Mavs are now just half a game ahead of the 12th-placed New Orleans Pelicans (35-37).
