With the game on the line at the Toyota Center in Houston, Anthony Edwards stepped up to play the hero for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The 23-year-old has been one of the league's most exciting players over the last few seasons, and the talented guard did not disappoint on Friday night, hitting a clutch 3-point shot late in the game to give his team a vital win.
The incredible step-back 3-pointer left the home fans stunned and Edwards received praise from former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas for his stellar display. During the postgame interview, Edward paid tribute to Arenas with one of his memorable lines.
"Like Gilbert Arenas said, I don't do overtime, so f**k it," said Edwards.
Edwards' comments led to an immediate reaction from Arenas on social media, with the former Washington Wizards star giving Edwards his seal of approval. Arenas, who goes by the name "no.chill.gil" on Instagram, shared an image of Edwards with the following response:

With the Timberwolves trailing the Houston Rockets by two points with less than 30 seconds left, Edwards received the ball and went to work. A high probability two-point shot would have tied the game, but Edwards seemed focused on the win and avoiding overtime. The 6-foot-4 sharpshooter was able to shake off Jae'Sean Tate and create enough space to convert a 3-pointer to secure a one-point lead, which Minnesota was able to hold on to.
At one point, the Timberwolves trailed by 12 with just over three minutes left. Edwards, Naz Reid and Julius Randle all chipped in with points in the final minutes to lead an unlikely rally and give Minnesota their 16th win of the season.
Over 29 games, Anthony Edwards is averaging 25.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
Gilbert Arenas backs up Anthony Edwards' claim that Michael Jordan was the only skilled player of his era
Anthony Edwards hit the headlines earlier this year when he claimed that NBA players during the 90s were not as skilled as players are today. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal in August, Edwards made the following statement regarding Michael Jordan and the standard of play during his era:
"I didn't watch it back in the day so I can't speak on it. They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don't think anybody had skill back then. (Jordan) was the only one that really had skill, you know what I mean? So that's why when they saw Kobe, they were like, 'Oh, my God.' But now everybody has skill," said Edwards.
The comments made waves in the basketball world with many current and former players chiming in on the debate. Gilbert Arenas, who played 11 seasons in the NBA, came out in support of Anthony Edwards following the bold statement.
"Basically, all Jordan's competition in that era did not even have the physical tools to keep up with him. So he was basically a Bugatti and everybody else was a Honda Civic.
"All the shooting guards were 6'4 and under. They didn't have no jumping ability, right? So who he went against, he's saying they wasn't talented meaning they wasn't athletic to keep up with them today," said Arenas on his podcast 'Gil's Arena.'
Arenas is known for his candid, honest and sometimes contentious takes. The 42-year-old was never teammates with Jordan, but did play against him, and can therefore make a fair assessment when comparing the two eras.
