Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics captured the 2023-24 NBA title after defeating the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the finals. This marked the 18th championship for the franchise as it moved ahead of the LA Lakers who are second with 17 titles.
As Tatum got down to celebrating the title, he was trolled by fans in good humor for allegedly copying other superstars and not doing a great job of it. The Celtics forward sat down with Sports Illustrated recently, a video of which was posted on YouTube on Thursday. Tatum was asked if he had seen the conversations about him imitating some iconic celebrations. He said (0:34):
“Yeah. I have, you know, the internet is a great place and, you know, it's definitely, as they say, the internet is undefeated. So, you know, I've had a good time laughing and seeing all the memes and things like that.”

Some of the iconic moments that Jayson Tatum copied included former Celtic Kevin Garnett’s legendary “Anything is possible!” celebration after winning the 2008 title. Tatum copied the reaction but said “We did it” instead.
He also copied Kobe Bryant’s iconic jacket pose, Steph Curry’s “What they gonna say now?” celebration and Kanye West’s “I guess we will never know” speech at the Grammys.
Jason Tatum was allegedly not done copying iconic celebrations as the cover of Sports Illustrated’s July issue had him in an iconic Leonardo DiCaprio pose. While DiCaprio has raised a glass in several movies, the most iconic one is from the 2013 romance drama “The Great Gatsby.”
It’s evident that the team at SI and Tatum decided to have some fun with fans while also toasting to the great summer that the one-time champion is having.
Jayson Tatum spoke about the honor of wearing Boston Celtics jersey
In the same Sports Illustrated interview, Jayson Tatum spoke about being drafted by the Boston Celtics and what it meant to him. He said (0.55):
“Coming into the league, being drafted by the Celtics, being here for seven years, understanding the rich history and tradition that we have of this organization and 17, now 18 championships that we have and all the greats that have worn this uniform before me. So it's an honor to wear the uniform. It's a privilege to now be a part of the Celtics' greats.”
While Jayson Tatum accomplished his dream of winning an NBA title, his focus should now shift to winning gold with Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Americans are the favorites to win gold and start their campaign against the Nikola Jokic-led Serbia on Sunday.
