This offseason, the Denver Nuggets' biggest move was signing Russell Westbrook. Based on some recent comments at media day, it seems like the former MVP is already having a positive impact on his new team.
Following a lackluster run with the LA Lakers, many thought it was the beginning of the end for Westbrook. However, he managed to have a minor resurgence with the LA Clippers. Primarily coming off the bench, Westbrook averaged 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists last season.
After being traded to the Utah Jazz and waived, Russell Westbrook signed with the Nuggets in free agency. During his media day press conference, coach Michael Malone opened up on the energy he has brought to the team.
"Russ was in the gym yesterday and there was just a different energy," Malone said. "Can't explain it. But it's just his voice, his leadership, his intensity, his competitive spirit."

Even though he's on a new team, Westbrook's role should remain the same. He'll likely slot in as the Nuggets' sixth man behind Jamal Murray and lead the charge for their young second unit. Still capable of being a do-it-all guard in short stints, Westbrook can help fill the gaps when the stars are off the floor.
Russell Westbrook opens up on getting to play with Nikola Jokic
Throughout his career, Russell Westbrook has had the chance to play alongside several high-level players. The list includes the likes of Kevin Durant, James Harden, Paul George and LeBron James. Now with the Denver Nuggets, another superstar will be added to this list.
Nikola Jokic is fresh off winning his third MVP award and is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world today. During media day, Westbrook talked about getting to share the court with such a special talent.
"He does so many different things on the floor that allows other people to be great," Westbrook said. "I'm just happy to be able to be a part and not playing against him."
It likely won't happen for long stretches but there will surely be times when Westbrook and Jokic are on the floor together. Having played alongside another ball-dominant star in the past, he knows what he'll have to do to succeed. Westbrook can be utilized similarly to how the Nuggets use Aaron Gordon as an off-ball cutter.
After losing another key rotation piece in free agency, depth has been a major question mark for the Nuggets heading into next season. As the most experienced veteran in their second unit, Westbrook will be called upon in a big way to provide productive minutes. Denver is likely hoping he can be the X factor with his skillset like how Bruce Brown was during its title run in 2023.
