"They have already been through enough"- Lakers fans troll Anthony Davis as All-Star vows to offer game tickets to first responders

LA Lakers fans were not keen on Anthony Davis' heartwarming gesture after the team's dismal 126-102 loss to the San Antonio Spurs at the Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday. The center earlier told reporters that he planned to meet personally with the first responders for their massive support in aiding the relief work for the wildfires. He added that he would arrange Lakers tickets as a small token for their relentless service.

Per ESPN's Dave McMenamin:

"Anthony Davis says he plans to meet personally with first responders and arrange for Lakers tickets for them as a small token of thanks for their service."

The fans however were not a happy lot. One of them commented that deflating loss didn't warrant additional fandom.

"Wow, i think they’ve been through enough AD!"

More responses poured in. One of the fans tweeted:

"Are we actually going to win when they get invited ?"

This was seconded by another:

"They gonna decline after watching the effort tonight. Better ways to spend time than watching this sorry ass team play rn"

The tough shots continued with a fan writing:

"Leave them alone, they don’t want to go through another disaster called the Lakers"

One fan minced no words:

"When the city of Los Angeles needs hope and something to cheer up, the Lakers can't just give nothing but embarrassment"

The Lakers started strong, but familiar third-quarter woes sunk them again as the Spurs roared back into the contest. Davis had another strong showing with 30 points and 13 rebounds, but the efforts weren't enough to propel the side to a win. LA is now 0-3 and host the belligerent Miami Heat on Wednesday.

"We had a tragedy": Anthony Davis speaks on getting back on court after LA wildfires

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the loss, Anthony Davis was asked about what it felt like for him and the Lakers to get back on the hardwood. The big referenced COVID in his reply:

"We had a tragedy. Seeing this from the news and social media and having been evacuated... looking out the window and seeing that the fire is right there. Honestly, it's been a tough time for our city. The one thing we found out through the course of COVID was sports kind of brings joy to people even if it's temporary and we were eager to play basketball in front of fans again."

As LA limps back to normalcy, Anthony Davis and the Lakers hope to recover lost form as they look to go for another title in the LeBron James-AD era.
