Trae Young used the word "insane" to sum up Connecticut coach Dan Hurley's latest rant against the refs, but couldn't help but praise the two-time NCAA champion for his passion and zeal. During UConn's game against Big East rivals Butler on Tuesday, Hurley was involved in a memorable encounter with an official that has now gone viral.

Dan Hurley is known as for his competitive nature. In many ways, that is what makes him so good at his job. Over, the last few seasons, no coach in the North American basketball landscape dominated the way he has.

After a no-call from the referee late in the first half, Hurley was livid and appeared to make the following statement to one of the officials:

"Don't turn your back on me. I'm the best coach in the f**king sport"

The comment left many viewers stunned and Atlanta Hawks All-Star guard Trae Young was the latest to give his two cents on the heated incident.

"This dude is insane. Hate it or Love it.. gotta respect it," said Young.

Trae Young can understand how competitive the college game can be. He spent a year in Norman with the University of Oklahoma and played 32 games at the collegiate level. After a successful season with the Sooners, Young was selected as the No. 5 pick by the Dallas Mavericks. Soon after, he was traded to the Hawks in a move that saw Luka Doncic head to the Mavs.

Hurley is known for his enthusiasm and high intensity. Tuesday's incident was not his first clash with the officials. During an overtime loss to Memphis in November, the veteran coach earned a tech after disputing a no-call.

"For that call to be made, at that point of the game, was a complete joke," said Hurley after the game.

Last season against the Purdue Boilermakers, Hurley once again had words with the refs after they apparently let center Zach Edey get away with a moving screen.

Dan Hurley comes from a family of coaches. His brother, Bobby, is the head coach at Arizona State. His father, Bob Hurley Sr., was a legendary high school coach in the state of New Jersey.

It came as no surprise when the Los Angeles Lakers showed interest in Dan Hurley this offseason. Hurley has evolved into one of the most respected coaches in college basketball over the last few seasons.

In the 2022-23 campaign, Hurley led his team to a 31-8 record. They would go on to win the schools first NCAA national championship since 2014. Last year, he repeated the incredible feat, defeating Purdue 75-60 to guide the Huskies to their sixth national championship.

UConn entered the 2024-25 season as one of the early favorites to win it all. Hurley will be aiming to secure a historic three-peat that would etch his name in the history books for decades to come. The UCLA team's of the '60s and '70s remain the only men's NCAA basketball team to every win three consecutive titles.
