"This kid is weird"- NBA fans roast Jared McCain's 'spoken word' like break down of Drake's popular song

Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain, known for his TikTok videos, recently showcased his spoken word poetry skills by reciting lyrics from a Drake song in a new video. Some fans were not entertained by his antics.

In the 48-second clip filmed at the beach, McCain said the setting made him reflect on life. He then recited lyrics from Drake’s “Weston Road Flow,” a song about the rapper’s past. McCain specifically chose these lyrics:

“Weston Road flows, my confidence level gettin' settled / Don't get hyped for the moment then start to backpedal / Don't let your newfound fame fool you / Or cloud up your judgement to talk loosely, I really do this / Been flowin' stupid since Vince Carter / Was on some through the legs arm in the hoop s**t / Drinkin' Hpnotiq with Glenn Lewis, I been through it.”

While the TikTok video was a departure from his usual dance content, fans still poked fun at him.

“Hell nah wtf this kid is weird,” said X (formerly Twitter) user @indianafeverish.

User @AlphaKabin4 commented that McCain’s TikTok antics made him dislike the player even before he entered the NBA, saying:

“He made me hate him before I could see him hoop that’s crazy work ngl.”

Some users were displeased that he was reciting a Drake song.

“I can defend the nail painting, but I can't defend being a Drake fan, Jared,” said @ForeignBobbie.

The Philadelphia 76ers have had an eventful offseason, drafting Jared McCain 16th overall, acquiring Paul George, extending Tyrese Maxey and renewing Kelly Oubre Jr. Additionally, they added Caleb Martin, Eric Gordon and Andre Drummond to their roster.

These moves have significantly improved the team around reigning MVP Joel Embiid, and with new veterans added to the team, Jared McCain is expected to come off the bench.

The projected starters for Philadelphia are Maxey, Oubre, George, Martin and Embiid.

McCain, a shot-making guard, was selected by Philadelphia with the 16th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. In his lone season at Duke, he earned a spot on the 2023-24 ACC All-Rookie Team and received an All-ACC Honorable Mention.

The 76ers could use him as an off-the-bench sparkplug. He averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals for Duke.
