LA Lakers guard Austin Reaves joked after seeing a fan wearing a Klay Thompson Golden State Warriors jersey. Reaves participated in the American Century Celebrity Gold Championship Tournament where he was met with a few fans. As he signed autographs and took pictures, he saw a Warriors fan approach him.

Reaves trolled the fan who was wearing a Thompson jersey. The organization traded their longtime shooting guard to the Dallas Mavericks via a multiteam trade earlier this month. The move is still fresh to most fans of the team, and the Lakers guard didn't hold back.

"You might have to throw that jersey in the lake," Reaves said.

The fan was a good sport as he laughed with the NBA player.

Thompson spent 13 years with the Warriors, winning four titles and appearing in five All-Star games and on two All-NBA teams. In his time with the team, he averaged 19.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists. The star shooting guard also averaged 41.3% from beyond the arc during that span.

Now, Warriors fans will have to get used to seeing Thompson in a Mavs jersey.

An NBA legend has a strong opinion about Austin Reaves

Austin Reaves' name has been tossed around in trade talks multiple times this summer. However, the Lakers are willing to keep him despite multiple teams eyeing to secure him via trade. The organization has big plans for Reaves and is not simply giving in to the idea of trading him.

Former Lakers star Shaquille O'Neal recently shared his thoughts on what the team should do with Reaves. Now that they have a new coach in JJ Redick, they could have a different approach to the 2024-25 NBA season.

"If I was LeBron (James), being that I already have all the records, I would pass it to A.D. (Anthony Davis)," O’Neal said. "I would demand A.D. — 'cause listen, LeBron can still do what he do, but, 'I don’t need to have the ball all the time. I don’t need to score all the points.
"So, A.D. I need you to score all the points. Austin Reaves, you can be No. 2. I can just be the old Magic Johnson-style point guard and keep everybody involved and just keep this thing going.'"

Last season, Reaves showed a slight improvement in his game. He averaged 15.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 5.5 apg while shooting 36.7% from beyond the arc. The 2024-25 season could be his chance at having more responsibility on the court.
