Trae Young broke the hearts of Utah Jazz fans Tuesday night with a game-winning half-court shot at the buzzer. Young waved goodbye to the crowd while performing his signature "ice cold" celebration. The moment also prompted two-time NBA champion Vernon Maxwell to take a jab at Jazz fans on social media.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), "Mad Max" shared a fan's reaction video to Young’s game-winning shot, which gave the Atlanta Hawks a 124-121 victory over the Jazz. Maxwell had some memorable battles in Utah when he played for the Houston Rockets in the 1990s.
That rivalry carried over after his retirement, as Maxwell has repeatedly mocked Jazz fans and the state of Utah. He even joked by comparing Tuesday’s heartbreaking loss to the banning of incestuous marriages in the state back in 2010.
"I haven’t seen this level of heartbreak in Utah since they banned incestuous marriages in 2010," Maxwell tweeted.

Vernon Maxwell has been critical of Utah for years, with his pinned tweet even being a fake apology to Jazz fans from 2017. While he played for several teams during his career, Maxwell spent the first half of his tenure with the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets.
Young finished the game with 24 points, two rebounds and 20 assists. The win was the Hawks’ 19th of the season, snapping a three-game losing streak as they head into the final part of their six-game road trip against the Phoenix Suns Thursday night.
Collin Sexton gives props to Trae Young after game-winning shot
Collin Sexton went toe-to-toe with Trae Young on Tuesday, finishing with 24 points for the Jazz. Sexton hit a game-tying shot with less than three seconds left in regulation, sending the game to what seemed like overtime, but Young had other plans and ended the contest with his buzzer-beater.
Sexton spoke to reporters after the game and praised the Hawks star for his clutch shot.
"Honestly, he made a tough shot," Sexton said, according to Sports Illustrated. "I feel like I maybe could have pressured him up a little bit, but you gotta live with those at the end of the day."
"If you make it, you make it, it went in. If he shoots it three or four more times, I'd do the same exact thing."
Sexton is having a strong season in Utah, while Young has re-established himself as one of the best point guards in the NBA.
