Thunder forward Jalen Williams expressed his thoughts on having two Defensive Player of the Year awards
Big men in the NBA have dominated the Defensive Player of the Year award. In the last two seasons, Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Jaren Jackson Jr. of the Memphis Grizzlies won it.
During Tuesday's episode of the "Old Man and the Three" podcast, OKC Thunder forward Jalen Williams gave a different take on the award.
"I think there should be two Defensive Player of the Years," Williams said. "Defense is very like different for certain players, I can be a very good defensive player without averaging the most steals."
Williams made it clear that he was not dissing any previous winners and that he believes they deserve their awards. However, he highlighted the importance of guards' defense in the league. He expressed his desire to see two different awards, one for the big men and one for the guards.
Williams is having a strong run with the Thunder this season, averaging 20.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
