Stephen Curry, who has worn Under Armour since 2013, was put into a tough spot by Atlanta native Desi Banks. The 4x NBA champion was handed a pair of White Nike Air Forces to sign which he was reluctant to sign but eventually did on one condition.

Curry made sure he showed his loyalty to Under Armour by pointing at his brand logo with the Baltimore brand before declaring (via @TheWarriorsTalk on X):

Curry, who has had a history with Nike, is usually not very welcoming towards their products and this interaction marked a very rare occurrence. Steph has built a large business alongside Under Armour and is their biggest star in basketball.

Having launched the Curry 12s in August 2024, the brand has made a good profit with Curry at the helm. New colorways 'Wardell Mode' and 'Shooting Star' were recently released in November and are currently retailing for $140 on the Under Armour website.

Nike snubbed Stephen Curry before Under Armour deal

Stephen Curry spent the first four seasons in the NBA donning Nike shoes. In 2013, as his deal was set to expire, Curry had just begun to show his prowess as a star and was set to re-sign with Nike before they fumbled the bag big time.

The Curry family at the time was meeting with all major sneaker companies which included Nike and Under Armour. Nike, who held the advantage at that point, reportedly offered Steph a $2.5 million-per-year deal, which was significantly less than Under Armour's $4 million-per-year contract, plus a signature shoe.

Additionally, Nike representatives met with the Warriors star and mispronounced his name during the meeting, calling him Stephon instead of Stephen. The nail in the coffin, however, was a repurposed PowerPoint presentation made by Nike, which had Kevin Durant's name in it instead of Curry's.

The 4x NBA champion eventually chose to represent Under Armour and took the chance of becoming the face of an up-and-coming brand. Although a gamble, the decision has since paid off, with Curry currently on a $20 million-a-year deal which runs till 2024.
