It was another spectacular finish for USA Basketball in the Olympics as they bested France with a 98-87 win in the gold medal game. Despite some doubts from basketball analysts and some close finishes, the team managed to get the job done in the end.
However, a fan argued that they are only considered an Olympic champion and not a 'World Champion', which garnered a community note.
When USA Basketball posted on X the question of whether they were the world champions, user 'Femi (@thefemianthony) answered in the negative. His comment was also a reference to Noah Lyles, the American professional track-and-field sprinter.

Lyles previously highlighted how he's not fond of NBA champions being branded as 'World Champions' when the league only involves competition between American teams.
"How does winning the Olympics make you the World Champion? You're an Olympic Champion, not a World Champion," the fan posted."
X users Jagaban_MCFC (@mcfc_jagaban), André Rochadel (@andre_rochadel), Elijah T-M. (@tchilembe) and HeavenBound (@gospelsongsng) all mirrored the same sentiment.
"Germany Men's Basketball team are still the World Champions, while the USA Men's Basketball team are the Olympic Gold medal Champions. Noah might have been rude, but he was right," the fan posted.
"No, because you won the Olympic Games, not the world basketball championship. Shouldn't be that hard," the fan posted.
"Let's win the World Cup first," this fan wrote.
"Community notes - comes to the rescue," the fan posted.
The community note, on the other hand, pointed out that the FIBA World Cup determines which country can call itself the basketball champions of the world. During last year's competition, Germany defeated Serbia 83-77 to secure their first gold medal of the competition.
Meanwhile, USA Basketball finished fourth after a disappointing 127-118 loss to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Canada.
USA Basketball superstar LeBron James credited Stephen Curry's electric performance against France
It was 82-79 with 3:04 minutes to go in the fourth quarter as France slowly chipped back into the game and the home crowd rallied behind them. However, it then led to the Stephen Curry show and the Victor Wembanyama-led squad wasn't prepared for it.
He knocked down one three-pointer after another. When it was time to put the game away, he launched a deep shot over the outstretched arms of two defenders as the USA went home with another gold medal.
It was a spectacular outing from Curry and a reminder to the basketball world why he's considered the premier marksman from beyond the arc. The three-point barrage was a surreal experience that Lakers star LeBron James was glad to be a part of, as per BasketNews.com.
"I've seen it before," James said. "In different uniforms. It's good to be on his side. You just marvel at his talent. Obviously, I've seen it before, you know, on the opposite side. But having him on your side, you just try to get stops and figure out other ways on the other end, but keep finding him, keep getting him the ball."
To come together and play under one team with a similar goal in mind was the mindset heading into the Paris 2024 Olympics for American stars. Basketball fans were familiar with watching the players of this year's roster going head-to-head on the NBA court, which made this gold medal run all the more special.
Despite it being his first stint at the Olympics, the Warriors superstar left everything on the floor and USA Basketball came away as victors.
