Looking at how both teams have fared leading up to Tuesday's USA vs Brazil game
Leading up to Tuesday's USA vs Brazil game, Brazil had mixed success in the Olympics, going just 1-2 through the Group Phase of play. After going 1-2 in their international friendlies in June, the team competed in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, where it split wins and losses in the group phase.
In the playoffs, however, they picked up back-to-back wins, defeating the Philippines on Jul. 6 before defeating Latvia to secure their spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Once the Group Phase of play began in Paris, the Brazilians lost their opening game to France 78-66. The game notably saw Brazil go through a dry spell in the third quarter, where it scored just nine points.
In their second game of the Group Phase, the team faced Germany, who entered the Olympics as the reigning FIBA World Champions. Despite a big second quarter that saw Brazil outscore Germany 30-18, the team lost its second straight game.
In their final game of the Group Phase, the Brazilians picked up a much-needed win over Japan to punch their ticket to the playoffs thanks to a stunning 33-point outing from Bruno Caboclo, which included 17 rebounds and a block.
On the flip side, Team USA has remained dominant this summer leading up to Tuesday's USA vs Brazil game. The Americans went 5-0 across their international friendly games before rattling off three straight wins in the Group Phase.
The team began its Olympic campaign with a 110-84 win over Serbia, who finished second in the FIBA World Cup last summer, before picking up a 103-86 win over South Sudan in a highly-anticipated rematch.
Last, but certainly not least, in its final Group Phase game before Tuesday's USA vs Brazil game, Team USA defeated Puerto Rico 104-83 to punch its ticket to the playoffs.
