Saturday's USA vs France gold medal game started quickly with Joel Embiid winning the tip, before LeBron James and Victor Wembanyama traded buckets early in the first quarter.
With just under five minutes left in the first, Rudy Gobert notably checked into the game after being omitted from coach Vincent Collet's starting lineup for the third straight game.
When Gobert checked into the game, France was down 12-11, with USA coach Steve Kerr countering by substituting in Anthony Davis at the same time. Additionally, with just over four minutes left in the first, Kerr brought in Jayson Tatum, who didn't play in Team USA's win over Serbia earlier in the week.
Late in the first, after knocking down a big pair of threes to push the US ahead by five, Anthony Edwards stared down his Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Rudy Gobert in a moment that quickly went viral.

At the end of the first, the USA led 20-15, with Devin Booker and Edwards combining for 13, and Victor Wembanyama leading the way for France with seven points.
In the second quarter, Les Bleus were able to pull ahead by one, however, the US fired back, retaking the lead. With just under four minutes left in the quarter, tempers flared as referees broke up a slight altercation between the two teams started by Devin Booker and Nando De Colo.
Late in the quarter, Team USA began to pull away, extending its lead to seven before an and-one from Booker pushed the lead to 10. At the end of the half, Team USA led by eight with the score 49-41.
In the third quarter, Team USA was able to extend its lead to 14, forcing France to call a timeout with just under seven minutes left.
As the third quarter progressed things began to get chippy, with Joel Embiid picking up a technical foul after shoving Rudy Gobert as both players struggled to get going.
At the same time, Wembanyama began to make his presence felt, bringing the USA lead down to nine as he scored his 20th point with a big 3-pointer. Evan Fournier also began to find his rhythm, scoring his first points at the three-minute mark to close the lead to just six.
LeBron James was quick to answer back with an immediate three of his own, his first of the contest.
With less than a minute to go in the quarter, fans were treated to an Anthony Edwards lob from Kevin Durant, which then led to an immediate response from France, with Evan Fournier drilling his second three to bring the deficit to six.
With one quarter left, Anthony Davis and Kevin Durant got Team USA going early with some offense.
With three and a half minutes left in regulation, James fouled Guerschon Yabusele, with the bucket fueling a big momentum shift for France. The Yabusele-Wembanyama duo brought the lead to three, however, Steph Curry then responded with a big three of his own to push the lead to six.
Curry then knocked down three more threes in the closing minutes of the game to give the US an 11-point lead in what could be his only time in the Olympics.
The US closed out a 98-87 win, winning gold for the fifth straight time.
