Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins has been a popular name in trade discussions over the years. It appears as if that conversation is heating up once again.
The 25-year-old forward has been an important piece of the puzzle for the Hawks since 2017. Collins is known as an offensive spark who can beat defenders with his athleticism. He also can stretch the floor with his outside shooting.
This season, Collins has continued to show his consistent production. He's averaging 12.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 31.8 minutes. With the Atlanta Hawks having so many offensive pieces on their roster, it's clear that Collins' production would be higher if in another situation.
Numerous NBA teams are targeting the 25-year-old forward as a potential trade piece. Recently on "FanDuel TV," NBA insider Shams Charania said:

"This year, I think there is more momentum than there has been in past years," Charania said. "Utah, Phoenix are two teams that have shown desire in him."
Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins mentioned as a potential trade candidate
John Collins has previously found himself in a similar position with the Atlanta Hawks. The versatile forward has the tools to be an intriguing addition to an inquiring organization.
One of the challenges when it comes to trading for Collins is his contract situation. The 25-year-old forward is set to make $23.5 million this season. Collins signed a five-year, $125 million extension that started during the previous season.
That would mean that any team acquiring Collins would have an additional two years at a minimum on his contract. Collins is also set to have a player option for the 2025-26 season, which is set to be north of $26.5 million.
The Atlanta Hawks have found themselves in an interesting position. After a disappointing 2021-22 season, the Hawks were aggressive in upgrading their team this offseason. They traded for versatile guard Dejounte Murray to pair with franchise star Trae Young.
The move has paid off. The Hawks (10-6) have shown some promising signs of growth. With the team needing to continue to take steps in the right direction, trading Collins could open up some future cap space.
Last season, Collins, who made the 2017-18 All-Rookie team, averaged 16.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 52.6%. Atlanta drafted Collins out of Wake Forest with the No. 19 pick in 2019.
