Luka Doncic returned to the American Airlines Center on Wednesday for the first time since his trade to the LA Lakers. The trade at the beginning of February rattled the NBA world and was widely considered one of the most surprising in league history.

While Lakers fans were ecstatic to receive one of the NBA's brightest young stars, Mavericks supporters were infuriated and directed their criticism at GM Nico Harrison.

Doncic's homecoming to Dallas was emotional for everyone involved, and the Slovenian himself got a little choked up watching the Mavericks' heartfelt tribute video. But when the game got underway, it was business as usual for Doncic as he poured in 45 points to guide LA to victory.

His performance inspired Edo Muric, one of Luka's Slovenian teammates and closest friends, to post a humorous image on Thursday that featured Doncic stomping Nico Harrison into a grave as punishment for trading him away.

Nico Harrison has faced severe backlash from Dallas Mavericks fans since the deal went through, with chants for the team to fire him doing the rounds at the arena.

How has the Luka Doncic trade worked out for both teams involved?

When Nico Harrison addressed the media to explain why he made the blockbuster deal, he said his desire was to construct a team capable of winning the title immediately. He alluded to the idea that he did not believe that Luka Doncic was talented enough to take the team to a championship, opting instead to bring in Anthony Davis to join Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson.

Since the trade occurred, injuries have devastated the Mavericks' roster, including a left adductor strain for Davis before he finished his first game in Dallas and a torn ACL for Irving that will result in him missing almost a year.

As a result, the Mavericks are limping into their play-in tournament game against the Sacramento Kings.

The Lakers, on the other hand, have excelled since adding Luka Doncic to their roster, climbing up to the third seed in the Western Conference. Both LeBron James and head coach JJ Redick have credited Doncic with leading what has been a dominant second half of the season for Los Angeles.

As the playoffs approach, the Lakers are one of the favorites to make the NBA Finals, while the Mavericks are unlikely to even make it out of the play-in tournament. It remains to be seen which team actually "won" the trade, but as it stands, the Lakers are far better set up to find success in the short term than the Mavericks.
