Victor Wembanyama had the perfect gift for fans tuned in for the NBA's traditional Christmas Day games. His performance against the New York Knicks placed him among the ranks of two legendary centers Wilt Chamberlain and Nikola Jokic.

The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year ended the game with 42 points, 18 rebounds, four blocks and four assists in the 117–114 loss at the Madison Square Garden. He is now the third player in NBA history to have a stat line of 40 points and 15 rebounds on Christmas Day.

It was not the only record the second-year Spurs star claimed during the game. He became the first player in league history to have 40+ points, 15+ rebounds and 5+ 3-points on Christmas Day.

Furthermore, the Spurs' PR department noted something else during the game. Wemby became the second player in the league to reach another milestone. He joined Spurs legend David Robinson to get at least 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 350 blocks within the first 100 games.

The Frenchman has overcome a slow start to the season to come alive in his last five games for the Spurs. He has averaged 32.0 points, 10.4 rebounds and 6.6 blocks in the previous five games while shooting 40.7% from beyond the arc.

Victor Wembanyama is averaging 25.4 ppg, 10.2 rpg and 3.9 apg. These stats make him ready to make his first All-Star appearance after missing out last season. If he continues to perform like this, the league's Defensive Player of the Year title and/or a place in the All-NBA First Team could be his.

What's next for Victor Wembanyama after a historic Christmas Day outing?

Victor Wembanyama put on a show for the league despite the loss to the New York Knicks. While the league is preparing for the future exits of its aging stars LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant, the Frenchman is taking up the mantle, and at 20, there's room for improvement.
