On Friday, San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama shared his thoughts on the upcoming Feb. 6 trade deadline. The French rookie expressed his views on potential changes within the Spurs as they aim for their first playoff appearance under his leadership.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), French sports journalist Maxime Aubin revealed that he had asked Wembanyama whether the Spurs should remain active before the trade deadline. Aubin described Wembanyama's response as "interesting" and shared the player's words in his tweet.
"One thing for sure: our roster won’t stay the same over the next years. Every roster change a little bit. I don’t know… I should look at those things more seriously. I’ve been focused on my game so far… But for sure, I’ll take a closer look at it," Wemby said according to Aubin's report.

Wembanyama has given an open and honest assessment, indicating that he has done his best with the resources available. The 20-year-old, like any rookie, has not been overly demanding, particularly regarding his teammates.
Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes were added to the roster at the beginning of the season to provide Wembanyama with much-needed support. However, the duo alone isn't enough to lead the Spurs, as the team still needs younger players to play more minutes. Paul and Barnes have started the most games for the Spurs, but a young core will be essential to support Wembanyama in the long run.
Victor Wembanyama on his impressive Christmas debut
Victor Wembanyama went off on the New York Knicks during the Spurs' latest road trip. Playing in the first Christmas Day game of his career, the star dropped 42 points at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.
This figure was the third-best in NBA history for a player making his Christmas debut, surpassed only by Tracy McGrady (43) and Wilt Chamberlain (45). Despite his valiant efforts, the Spurs eventually fell short, losing 117-114, thanks to Mikal Bridges' career-high 41 points.
As reported by ESPN, Wembanyama shared after the game that the Christmas game held little significance to him and felt like any other game:
"I don't even know really the history of the best Christmas games, I'm thinking about the game right now and just thinking we were close but relaxed on some attributes at times," he stated after the game.
Wembanyama's impressive Christmas debut of 42 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists was overshadowed by a narrow loss. However, the Spurs have since bounced back with a win against the Brooklyn Nets, keeping their playoff hopes alive as the season progresses.
