Victor Wembanyama makes feelings known on players wanting to play with him after AJ Dybantsa's comments 

After a practice session on Wednesday, San Antonio Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama shared his thoughts on playing with a potential top pick of 2026. On Tuesday, AJ Dybantsa appeared on ESPN's "First Take" with Stephen A. Smith, where he expressed his dream of playing alongside Wembanyama.

Dybantsa did not hide his admiration for the Spurs franchise and believes the team's system would benefit him greatly.

"You watch the film [of me playing], how do you think me and Wemby would play?" the 6-foot-9 asked Smith.

After the Spurs' practice, reporters asked Wembanyama for his reaction to Dybantsa's comments, and he candidly shared his thoughts on the young forward's aspirations.

“No, not really,” Wemby said on if he’s used to players wanting to play with him.

“Because, first of all, the rules of the NBA. But, also, most players, we’re opponents. Nothing’s sure in this league about a player’s future."

Drafting Dybantsa would be a significant boost for the Spurs, as he is one of the top-scoring wings in the country.

At the 2024 Nike EYBL, Dybantsa averaged 22.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals. He gained further attention online when he announced his commitment to Brigham Young University (BYU) over offers from Alabama, Kansas, and North Carolina.

Victor Wembanyama gets love from NBA veteran

While young players like AJ Dybantsa look up to Victor Wembanyama, veteran players also have high praise for the Spurs star. On Wednesday, Denver Nuggets center DeAndre Jordan spoke highly of Wembanyama during his appearance on "Run It Back."

“He’s somebody you can’t really scout for,” Jordan said. “He’s an avatar. He’s extremely skilled, he can shoot the basketball, he can handle it and he can literally alter or block any shot that comes into the paint."

Jordan believes that Wembanyama's experience playing alongside Chris Paul will be beneficial for his development. As a former teammate of Paul, Jordan thinks that pairing the two stars will help the French center understand the game better and stay ahead of his opponents.

Over the summer, the Spurs signed Paul to a one-year, $11 million deal. So far, the veteran guard has played 24 games, averaging 10.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 8.5 assists. His presence has greatly benefited San Antonio's young core, especially Wembanyama.

Victor Wembanyama is averaging 23.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.4 blocks per game. With Paul as his teammate, the young center could be on track for his first All-Star appearance this season.
