Victor Wembanyama and France clashed against one of the best teams in the Paris Olympics basketball tournament, Canada, hoping to send the North Americans, one of the favorites to win the gold, home. The San Antonio Spurs young star is one of the most famous faces of the tournament and France's biggest hope to challenge for the gold medal.
Wembanyama scored two points in seven minutes in the first quarter, missing his three field goal attempts and two 3-pointers, only making 2-of-4 free-throw attempts. Wembanyama grabbed three total rebounds, three assists and three blocks to help France take a 13-point lead at the end of the first period.
Wemby only played three minutes in the second quarter, going scoreless and just adding one rebound to his account. France played at a high level, finishing the first half up 45-29 against a Canadian team that tried to stay close but couldn't keep up with the host team.
The second half wasn't much different for Victor Wembanyama. He only scored five more points after shooting 2 of 10 from the field (20%), 0 of 6 from deep and 3 of 6 from the free-throw line. Even with his offensive struggles, Wembanyama finished the game with 10 rebounds and five assists. He only recorded one block but it was a major one against Dillon Brooks when Canada could cut he distance to five points with less than three minutes on the clock.

France eliminated Canada despite Victor Wembanyama's offensive struggles
While Victor Wembanyama didn't have the best game on the offensive end of the ball, his contributions weren't necessary today, as the French team had multiple players scoring in double digits on the way to an 82-73 win. Guerschon Yabusele led the way with 22 points. Isaia Cordinier added 20 units while Mathias Lessort gave the Canadian frontcourt a hard time with 13 points.
Evan Fournier wasn't the highest-scorer for his team, but the majority of his 15 points came in the second half, when he took over and made clutch shots to establish the difference between France and Canada. Fournier showed up and despite going against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, one of the best two-way NBA players, he never hesitated.
France will face Germany in the semifinals, hoping to get revenge after losing to the reigning FIBA World Cup champions in the final game of Group C.
Victor Wembanyama knew how to adapt his game to his team's needs, showing more maturity on the court.
