The French National Basketball team, featuring NBA's 2024 Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama, took on Team Canada ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics on Friday. This contest was a tune-up game for the Olympics, which gets underway later this month.

The 2023 number-one overall pick had a quiet game against Canada as the French ended up losing by double digits (85-73). Wemby scored 10 points against the Canadian defense, going 4-for-7 from the field and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.

While France fired the opening salvo by scoring first, Canada was in control for most of the game. The French momentarily took the lead in the third quarter thanks to a Wemby jumper over Houston Rockets defensive stalwart Dillon Brooks. But that didn't sustain.

Leading the French team in scoring was former Boston Celtics forward Guerschon Yabusele. He came off the bench to drop 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting with four of his makes coming from downtown.

NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert scored 12 points without missing a single attempt (6-for-6). Meanwhile, Evan Fournier had a cold shooting night, going 1-for-7 to score only three points.

For the Canadians, it was OKC Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Toronto Raptors swingman RJ Barrett who led the way. SGA scored 23 points while Barrett was not far behind with 21.

Victor Wembanyama loses duel against Nikola Jokic in France's game before facing Canada

Prior to his team's loss to the Canadian National team, Victor Wembanyama dueled against fellow NBA player Nikola Jokic. Wemby and the French have struggled in the tune-up games they've played leading up to the Olympics thus far. Their contest against Serbia was no different.

Two-time NBA MVP Jokic was in his usual dominant form as he put up a double-double consisting of 20 points and 12 rebounds. However, he only dished one assist which was quite uncharacteristic for the multi-dimensional center.

Wemby was also playing up to the standards that his fans are used to seeing as he also put up a double-double. The Spurs center scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead his team. On the defensive end, he rejected two shot attempts.

However, Victor Wembanyama's performance was not enough to lead the French to a victory as they ended up losing 79-67.
