Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs rolled into Milwaukee on Wednesday, hoping to end a two-game losing streak. The game was highly anticipated because it featured the one-on-one showdown between Wemby and two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Frenchman made his mark early, scoring seven points with two rebounds to keep the Spurs within striking distance of the Bucks. Wemby also made an immediate impact on defense, altering multiple shots around the rim. San Antonio trailed 31-27 after the end of the first quarter.
The Milwaukee Bucks shackled the San Antonio Spurs in the second quarter. Wembanyama failed to score in the period as the host team pushed their lead to 65-46 at halftime.
Victor Wembanyama hit a 26-footer off a Stephon Castle pass early in the third quarter. He added two assists and a rebound as the Spurs closed the gap 91-78 heading into the final period.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft could not score in the fourth quarter. He attempted a 3-pointer that fell short and also committed a turnover. Wembanyama's performance was a big reason the San Antonio Spurs lost 121-105 to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Milwaukee Bucks defense slowed down Victor Wembanyama
The last time Victor Wembanyama did not score at least 15 points was on Nov. 7 against the Portland Trail Blazers. Portland limited him to 12 points on 4-of-13 shooting, including 2-of-6 from deep.
Against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, Doc Rivers gave Wemby different looks on defense. Giannis Antetokounmpo, the former Defensive Player of the Year winner, started on The Alien to open the game. Brook Lopez, Taurean Prince, Bobby Portis, Andre Jackson Jr., Gary Trent Jr. and Khris Middleton also had their time shadowing Wemby.
Rivers' strategy was simple. The Bucks doubled when a wing or a guard defended Wembanyama. When it was Antetokounmpo or Lopez who took on the 7-foot-3 star, Rivers made it a one-on-one battle.
The ploy worked as Victor Wembanyama couldn't get himself going on offense. He always had a defender to contest his shots. Wembanyama's 10 points were the second-lowest this season from the lanky Frenchman.
