Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs capped off a four-game road trip with a matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. The Spurs hoped to take a 2-1 series lead with a win versus Anthony Edwards and Co.

Wembanyama had eight points and two rebounds in the first quarter to push the Spurs to a 33-25 lead. The Frenchman got a boost from Devin Vassell, who contributed five points, four rebounds and two assists in the period.

The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year winner and his teammates could not do much in the second quarter against the hosts. Minnesota crushed the Spurs 32-12 in the period to turn an eight-point deficit into a 57-45 halftime lead.

Victor Wembanyama had 11 points in the third quarter to turn the tables on the Minnesota Timberwolves. The 7-foot-3 star led his team to a dominant 37-25 period to tie the game at 82 apiece heading into the fourth quarter.

The Wemby show continued in the final frame. He added 14 more points but missed a potential game-tying free throw with 18.0 seconds remaining. Donte DiVincenzo grabbed the rebound but only went 1-for-2 from the charity stripe to give the Timberwolves a 112-110 edge.

The San Antonio Spurs went to Wembanyama for the final shot but the Timberwolves defense held up. Julius Randle wouldn't give him an inch, forcing Wemby to give up the ball late. Jeremy Sochan missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer.

Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs finished with a 1-3 road record

Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs have been on the road since Dec. 23. They opened their swing away from Texas with a 111-106 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

On Christmas Day, Wemby put on a show in front of a jam-packed Madison Square Garden crowd, but the Spurs lost 117-114 to the New York Knicks. Two nights later, they finally won one road game when they held on to beat the Brooklyn Nets 96-87.

On Sunday, the Spurs couldn't make enough late-game plays to walk away from Minnesota with a victory. Victor Wembanyama and Co. close out 2024 with a home game on New Year's Eve against the LA Clippers.
