Derrick Rose surprised many with the announcement of his retirement. The former NBA MVP was waived by the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, which seemingly prompted his decision to call it a career after stops in several franchises.

His most memorable stint came with the Chicago Bulls, where Rose played from 2009 until 2016, when he was traded to the New York Knicks. Considering his history with the franchise, fans thought the Bulls would sign Rose for a day so he could retire a Bull.

Amid this anticipation, Bulls insider KC Johnson explains that Rose's one-day contract has some problems.

"Bulls at maximum offseason number of 21 contracts, so no one-day ceremonial signing for now. Look for Bulls to honor DRose this season. Doing so with Tom Thibodeau and Knicks in town would make sense," Johnson tweeted.

Several fans reacted to this, with some saying that the Bulls could cut one or two players and nobody would be mad.

"Waive Lavine and Lonzo," one fan wrote.
"Nobody would be mad if someone got cut," another fan said.
"Waive THT, Lidell or Lofton," another fan wrote.

Other fans said the Bulls need to do this the right way at any cost.

"I might be done with this franchise if they don’t retire Derrick as a Bull. I don’t care how many contracts we have currently," one fan said.

Derrick Rose played 406 games with the Chicago Bulls, averaging 19.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game, becoming the youngest NBA MVP in history at 23 years old and leading the Bulls to the Eastern Conference finals the same year. However, he suffered a severe injury during that matchup.

Kevin Durant sends a heartfelt message after Derrick Rose's retirement

As soon as Derrick Rose made this announcement on Instagram, several fans commented on the post. Two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant was one of them, wishing him the best in the future.

"One of the greatest to ever grace a court. Thank you for sharing your gifts to the world, can’t wait to see what u got next. 🫡," Durant commented.

Rose last played with the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA, averaging 8.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
