The LA Lakers received a mixed reaction from fans on their draft picks last month. The arrival of Dalton Knecht was greatly appreciated, whereas the arrival of Bronny James created a storm of debate. Apart from these two draft picks, the Purple and Gold haven't acquired a major signing in the offseason yet.

Fans were growing impatient with general manager Rob Pelinka and when news of free agent Gary Trent Jr. being available on a one-year deal popped up, it had people asking him to acquire the talent. Evan Sidery from Forbes made a post on X, formerly Twitter, about Trent's availability as a one-year player.

Fans took to X, hoping Pelinka would make a move:

Other fans joined the fray and expressed their thoughts:

"Do something rob," @EverythngLaker said.
"Finally Pelinka is going to make a move, Ty," @Lakeland10000 said.
"If Lakers strike out on this guy too, might be their worst offseason ever," @eddynintendo said.

While some fans urged the Purple and Gold to grab him, others urged Trent's former teammate Damian Lillard to make some calls with almost identical messages:

"Dame please make a call," @TheyScaredOfLu said.
"Dame please make the call," @Crumbletakes said.

Gary Trent Jr. had an okayish performance last season, he averaged 13.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists for the Toronto Raptors. However, his specialty lies in his shooting prowess from the three-point line. He shot 39.3% from downtown and an incredible 43.1% from catch-and-shoot threes.

Trent would be a great addition to the Lakers, who are building a roster of elite shooters to fix their weak three-point shooting. He could come from the bench and make an immediate impact, scoring decent points in little time with passes from incredible playmakers like LeBron James and Austin Reaves.

What must the Lakers do to sign Gary Trent Jr.?

The LA Lakers have reportedly shown interest in acquiring the former Toronto Raptors guard. However, they need to mend some things to make the elite catch-and-shoot three-point specialist arrive at Crypto.com Arena.

The Purple and Gold are barely below the second tax apron and need to do severe cap management before they bring in another new talent. They recently resigned LeBron James to a max contract worth $104 million with a player option and a no-trade clause.

With this deal managing the cap space has become tricky for the front office as they will have to cut off some players to free up space and pursue other interests.
