Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr said that his childhood home was one of the properties damaged in the wildfires in Los Angeles. Before the Warriors' game against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday, Kerr told reporters that he had lost the home where he was raised.

According to Kerr, his mother safely evacuated from the house as the fires ravaged the Pacific Palisades.

"It's been tough," Kerr said about the recent devastation in California. "My family's fine. My mom is in good hands, but her house is gone. So, I've been on the phone with my siblings quite a bit. Family calls, just with my mom, but she's got a lot of support and friends, she's safe and sound.
"That was my hometown, and all my friends who are from there, pretty much, they've all lost their homes – their family homes or childhood homes."

According to Kerr, that was the house he grew up in. He said that he was in the house with his mother two weeks before the devastating event happened. The Warriors coach told reporters that his parents bought the house in 1969 and have lived there since then.

ABC News confirmed that at least 5,000 structures have been burned down. Also, at least five people have been confirmed to be dead because of the three wildfires (the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire and Hurst Fire).

In the Palisades area alone, over 19,000 acres have been damaged. The Eaton Fire, on the other hand, has taken over more than 10,000 acres. The flames have not been put out and over 180,000 people have evacuated, including celebrities and famous personalities.

Aside from Steve Kerr, another head coach has been affected by the fires

While Steve Kerr lost his childhood home, a Los Angeles head coach had to evacuate his entire family because of the disaster.

Because of the same event, LA Lakers coach JJ Redick's family also became victims of the tragedy. According to ESPN on Thursday, Redick and his family evacuated their home from the fires. They also confirmed that the former Duke star lost his home in Southern California.

After Tuesday's 118-97 loss against the Dallas Mavericks, Redick acknowledged the devastation in their area.

"Our family, my wife's family, my wife's twin sister, they've evacuated. I know a lot of people are freaking out right now, including my family. From the sound of things, with the winds coming (Tuesday night), I know a lot of people are scared. So, I just want to acknowledge that. Thoughts and prayers for sure, and hope everybody stays safe."

Because of the fires, the Lakers' game against the visiting Charlotte Hornets on Thursday has been postponed.
