Warriors land $13 million Nets guard to elevate offense with Steph Curry ahead of NBA Trade Deadline

According to Shams Charania, the Golden State Warriors have finalized a trade to acquire Dennis Schroder from the Brooklyn Nets. Charania had previously reported that Schroder was on the team's radar, which then led to a follow-up report that the Warriors were acquiring the Nets' guard.

Currently, Schroder is averaging 18.4 points per game, the most he's averaged since the 2019-20 season. In addition, he's averaging a career-high 6.6 assists per game, along with a career-high 1.1 steals per game. In addition, Schrorder is outperforming both his career field goal average and his career 3-point average.

With Golden State, who is sitting in fifth place in the Western Conference, looking to bolster their roster for a postseason run, Schroder provides another offensive threat while giving the Warriors another playmaker as well.

In return, the Nets will be acquiring guard De'Anthony Melton along with three second-round picks.

Charania broke the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, writing:

"The Brooklyn Nets are finalizing a deal to send guard Dennis Schroder and one second-round pick to the Golden State Warriors for De'Anthony Melton and three second-round picks, sources told ESPN. A dynamic playmaker and scorer arriving to the Warriors."

Looking at how the acquisition of Schroder will help the Warriors

While Schroder is averaging 1.1 steals per game this season, it's his presence on the offensive end of the floor that makes him an X-factor for Golden State.

Prior to Saturday's trade, Golden State ranked 14th in the league for points per game while ranking 22nd in team field goal percentage. Given that Schroder has shown that he can erupt for big scoring nights while staying efficient, he will undoubtedly provide some assistance to the Steph Curry-Buddy Hield duo.

In addition to Schroder giving the Warriors another talented offensive player, the trade itself will notably keep Golden State under the first apron.

With teams eager to remain under the luxury tax aprons to avoid penalties under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, the fact that Golden State has added an offensive threat to their roster without encroaching on the first apron is massive for the team.

Given the timing of the trade, it seems unlikely that Schroder will wind up joining the team for their clash with the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. Instead, look for him to play his first game in blue-and-gold on Thursday when the team plays the Memphis Grizzlies.
