Generational French draft prospect Victor Wembanyama continues to be a human highlight machine in international competition.
The projected 2023 No. 1 pick’s latest highlights came in his dominant performance for his French club, Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92. Wembanyama dropped a team-high 30 points as well as nine rebounds and five blocks on 10-for-19 (52.6%) shooting as his team beat Nanterre 92-85.
The 7'3" center had many noteworthy plays, but the one that caught the attention of most fans on social media came in the second quarter. Wembanyama brought the ball up the court, crossed over multiple defenders and took the ball to the rim for a tough finish.

Seven-footers aren’t usually expected to be able to move like that, but Wembanyama made it look effortless. Some of his other top plays included him blocking a putback dunk attempt in the third quarter.
Wembanyama also had a one-handed alley-oop dunk in the second quarter.
He then connected on a post-up spin move floater in the third quarter as well.
Following the win, Victor Wembanyama’s team is now 7-1 and has been carried by the 18-year-old sensation so far. The game against Nanterr was notably his first since he helped lead France to a FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 berth last week.
Through eight games for the Metropolitans, Wembanyama is averaging 22.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 3.1 blocks per game on 50.8% shooting.
Victor Wembanyama’s trainer on his work ethic
Victor Wembanyama may seem like a superhuman that can effortlessly dominate every time he steps on the court. However, he also has a strong work ethic, which has been a huge factor in his success so far.
Wembanyama’s trainer and skills coach Tim Martin recently sat down with Yahoo Sports where he raved about how special the Frenchman is. He particularly noted how Wembanyama is like a sponge when it comes to learning new skills.
"His ability to retain information and be able to master it on the court is just unreal," Martin said.
"I would tell him to do something and it only takes one rep before he understands and gets it. It’s different with every player I work with, but with Victor it’s, ‘OK, do this or that,’ and he’ll just go in and perfect whatever I showed him five minutes prior, he won’t forget it.
"The next workout I’ll have him do something else, but it will stem from something we worked on two weeks ago and he’ll do that. He’s always evolving with such ease and wants to get better every time he steps on the court.
"That’s what makes him great and what separates him from everyone else."
Martin then spoke about Wembanyama’s elite ability to disrupt shots around the rim.
"He’s probably altering 40% of the shots taken when he’s on the court," Martin said.
He even went as far as to say that Wembanyama would be the best defensive player in the NBA today, even at just 18 years old:
"He’s blocking jump shots from a weak-side rotation, not a lot of guys are doing that. He can cover so much ground, it’s crazy. If Victor was in the NBA today, he'd be the best defensive player in the league. On ball, he can switch, he can drop down low, shoot the gap, everything."
This kind of hype puts a lot of pressure on Victor Wembanyama heading up to the 2023 NBA Draft. However, Martin added that Wembanyama doesn’t let it faze him.
"He doesn’t really pay attention to any of the noise," Martin said.
"The players that are on Victor’s level, they don’t really worry about all the noise. They let others speculate and talk and all they’re focused on is continuing to find ways to get better and that's what he does.
"With who he is, he could be the greatest of all time and that might sound crazy, but with Victor, no one is going to put more expectations on him and who he can be, than himself.
"He has a clear vision of what he wants to be and I know it’s bigger than basketball. He wants to be the best version of him."
Thanks to his natural ability and strong work ethic, it looks like the sky is the limit for Victor Wembanyama.
