WATCH: Anthony Edwards gets escorted by security after being mobbed by fans during 7th graders basketball game in Georgia 

Fans couldn't get enough of Anthony Edwards as they mobbed him when he showed up to a 7th-grade basketball game in Georgia. The game featured a highly touted young prospect, but the Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star was easily the center of attention.

The crowd hoping to get near Edwards got so big that security needed to step in and escort him out of the building at halftime.

In the game, Edwards got to see Team Loaded's King Bacot, who is considered a top-five player in the class of 2029. Bacot led the team to a 61-58 win over the Decatur Blazers.

Edwards wrapped his fourth season in the NBA and emerged as one of the best stars in the league. The former University of Georgia standout averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists to earn his second-straight All-Star nod.

In the postseason, he showed off his leadership and showmanship. He led the Wolves to their second conference finals appearance. Ant played 16 games in the 2024 NBA Playoffs and put up 27.6 points, seven rebounds and 6.5 assists.

With Ant's regular season and playoff performances, more people became his fans.

Seth Curry believes the Hornets guard is on par with Anthony Edwards

Ever since Anthony Edwards was drafted into the league in 2020, he has often been compared to LaMelo Ball, who was drafted in the same year. When the two stars arrived, most of the attention was on Ball as his father, LaVar, marketed him as a potential superstar.

However, because of Ball's injuries and the Hornets' struggles, the attention has shifted to Edwards. The Wolves star has taken his game to the next level and many think he's become a better player than Ball.

But in an appearance on Austin Rivers' podcast "Off Guard," Seth Curry said that both guards are still neck-and-neck regarding talent.

"He ain’t that far off," Curry said of Ball. "It's health and personnel. You put Rudy Gobert, KAT, and that team around — not the same people, but that type of quality of team around LaMelo."

Ball has not had any success that's comparable to what Edwards has achieved. Over the four seasons that they've been in the NBA, the Hornets guard has not been in the postseason once. He's also only made the All-Star team once.

Edwards has also played 302 games in his career, while Ball has only suited up for 184. The injuries have kept the one-time All-Star from reaching his true potential, while the Wolves star continues to rise.
