Golden State Warriors superstar point guard Steph Curry tallied his highest point total of the season on Wednesday night.

Curry dropped 50 points in a tough 130-119 road loss to the Phoenix Suns. He made many highlight-worthy plays in the game, but perhaps none were more impressive than his off-balance no-look reverse layup in the second quarter. Curry split through two Suns defenders on the play (Mikal Bridges and Deandre Ayton) before converting a tough finish.

The basket marked two of Curry’s 31 first-half points on 10-for-13 (76.9%) shooting. Curry finished shooting 17-for-28 (60.7%), 7-for-11 (63.6%) from three and 9-for-9 (100.0%) at the line. The game marked Curry’s 11th time scoring 50-or-more points. The Warriors now have a record of 8-3 all-time in Curry’s 50-point outings.

Steph Curry on Warriors' 0-8 start on the road

Following their loss to Phoenix, the Warriors have dropped to a brutal 0-8 record on the road this season. Per ESPN, this marks their worst road start since the 1989-1990 NBA season, when they started 0-9. It also marks the longest road losing streak by a defending champion since the 1998-1999 Chicago Bulls.

After the loss, Steph Curry spoke to the media about the Warriors’ historically bad start. Curry highlighted the fact that the Warriors haven’t built up any good habits to start the season.

"Forget the road record, we can't find a sustainable period of success where habits start to form and we're in a position where we're coming off the court feeling good about ourselves,” Curry said.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr also spoke about how the Warriors have been playing carelessly.

"It's a pickup game out there," Kerr said.
"There's no execution on either end, no certain commitment to the group to get three stops in a row to execute on offense," Kerr continued.

Despite scoring an efficient 50 points, Steph Curry still took some of the blame for the loss. He explained that he needs to be the one to help his teammates get in the right frame of mind.

"I'm scoring great, trying to be efficient and I'm going to keep doing that," Curry said.
"But there's a collective kind of mindset around how I need to help everybody get in the right frame of mind to try and win and I'm up for the challenge of figuring that out," Curry continued.

Curry added that the season is a struggle for the Warriors right now and it will be difficult for them to overcome their team's issues.

"It's a struggle right now, keeping it real," Curry said.
"We have to understand that it's going to be really hard to dig yourself out of the situation that we're in because there are a lot of issues," he added.

Through 14 games, Steph Curry is averaging 32.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 5.1 3-pointers per game. He also has an elite shooting split of 53.1/44.7/92.9.

Curry is on pace to match his production from his 2015-2016 unanimous MVP season. That was the season he became the first player ever to average at least 30PPG on a 50/40/90 shooting split.

However, it won’t matter if the rest of the Warriors' roster continues to struggle. The Warriors currently rank just 27th in team-defensive rating at 114.1. They also now sit just 6-9 and 12th in the Western Conference. Overall, it's certainly not the kind of production that fans expect to see from the defending champions.

The Warriors' next chance to get back in the win column will be on Friday at home against the 8-7 New York Knicks.
