NBA coaches weigh in on Mike Brown's firing
Mike Brown's firing sent shockwaves throughout the NBA, particularly among other NBA coaches. Notable figures such as Golden State Warriors coach Stever Kerr, Denver Nuggets coach Michael Malone and Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle spoke out against the decision made by the Sacramento Kings.
"Very disappointed to hear the news," Kerr said. "Mike is a great friend, great coach. Talked to him and we all kind of know this is a nature of the business. It just seems so shocking when a guy is unanimous Coach of the Year a year and a half ago. When you think about where that franchise was before Mike got there, and where they've been the last couple years, it's really shocking."
"As an NBA head coach, ultimately, you’re going to get the blame,” Malone said. “When they win, it’s going to go to (Domantas) Sabonis and (De’Aaron) Fox. And when you lose, it’s going to go to Mike Brown. That’s the way it works."
"The firing of Mike Brown today was just shocking to me and I’m sure all the people in our profession — men and women," Carlisle said. "I had the privilege of working with Mike when I was in Indiana coaching the first time. I view him as one of the standard bearers for integrity for our profession. And I’m just absolutely shocked that that decision was made."
Mike Brown joined the Sacramento Kings as head coach in May 2022 and won the Coach of the Year award unanimously in his first season with the team.
