Last week, Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss spoke with NPR.org about the blockbuster Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade that shook the NBA. She said that the deal seemed to work out for both sides given that Davis had been complaining about wanting to play the power forward position.

Her comments left some members of the NBA community feeling as though Anthony Davis' pre-trade interview with Shams Charania—where he voiced his desire for the team to acquire a big man—served as a catalyst for the trade.

Now, during an appearance on former NFL star Julian Edelman's "Games with Names" podcast, the Lakers owner has cleared the air.

During the show, she made it clear that the team wasn't looking to trade Anthony Davis. However, while acquiring Luka Doncic, they had to give up thier star, Anthony Davis to do so.

"Look what we had to give up though. Do you know how hard that was? We were not looking to trade Anthony Davis. Dallas contacted us. It was a deal that both sides wanted to make. ... I didn't anticipate the global impact it would have.
"I mean, I knew it was going to be a big story in the NBA, but he really is a global superstar. ... And I love that he wears 77 because we've never had a 77."
